Morse Code Mastery: Signaling with Your MAGLight

Module 4: Real-World Scenarios for Morse Code in the Wild

Practical Use of Morse Code in Outdoor Adventures

Morse code can be an essential skill in survival situations. Below are examples of how it can be used in different scenarios.

Scenario 1: Stranded on a Boat

You’re stranded at sea with no working communication devices. With limited battery in your MAGLight, signal SOS to passing ships. Use short bursts of light, allowing time for your signal to be noticed.

Scenario 2: Lost in a Forest

You’re hiking and get separated from your group. Using the Morse code chart, signal „HELP“ (• • • • • – • • –) using your MAGLight. Flash the signal toward open areas, or up into the sky for helicopters or rescue teams.

Group Activity: Morse Code Relay

  • Pair up with other course participants. Stand at opposite ends of a clearing and take turns sending and receiving messages using your MAGLight.
  • Goal: Successfully communicate basic messages like „HELLO,“ „SOS,“ and „LOCATION NEEDED.“
